Bespoke Systems

Atmospheric and Oceanographic Research

  • The SeaLabMOS family of systems has many different configurations: CTD, temperature logger, bottom pressure recorder, and even a surface float. Everything you need to build your own is on GitHub! https://github.com/sscopazzi/SeaLabMOS/

  • All of our projects are open-source and following the ethos of Open Science, as defined by the United Nations. If you have an idea for something, but don’t know where to start, say hi! We are always happy to try and make dreams into a reality!

  • All ideas must start somewhere. We’ve found a good place is with 3D models because they;

    (1) Allow interaction with a design to help get the blood of a project flowing

    (2) Bring some issues to light early in a relatively inexpensive medium

    (3) Allow for quick hand-on prototyping via 3D printing

    (4) Help with with creating materials to use when showing your creation to others

We strive for open source

Open source hardware and software is as the core of what we do. While we are of course more than happy to build your system for you, everything we make utilizes consumer-off-the-shelf (COTS) parts that anyone can purchase and open source firmware/software.

This means, if you so choose, you can built your own system without paying us a dime! If you go this route, all we ask is that you credit us (and share your creation once you make it!)

Building small embedded systems using low-cost COTS hardware is an excellent place to start learning programming, wiring, 3D modeling, and many other skills. Because of this, we have made open source course curriculums available on GitHub that you can use or adapt.

If you’d like something more personal, we could hold in-person build workshops at your school; if interested, please contact us :)
